AGENDA#8, 10 December

Thank you Laura and Negar for sharing your wonderful thoughts and experience. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿค—And sorry that it in some way was like interviewing you both. But was worth it.๐Ÿ˜€

And thank you for letting me share your experiences here. Maybe we find some similarities in our experiences as well. Maybe some of us have painting interest, patience and skill like Negar’s or maybe we have different set of skills. ๐Ÿค”

You can read what Laura and Negar shared a few things about 2020 below.

Laura: I came in March this year; a week after that there was lockdown. It was very difficult. But luckily, I have some friends here whom I met during my study at TU/e few years ago. They helped to connect and even find an apartment. Even when we were moving from our short-term apartment to this apartment, our friends helped us in moving. Movers gave some excuses in not being able to help.

During the lockdown before I found a job, I was cooking a lot. We were transitioning to a new diet. And used to go running, was training for Eindhoven Marathon. I missed my friends back home who are like my sisters. I used to talk to Carola and ask about the news, what would happen and so. Through her I knew about the listening line started by TU/e students to connect with people. There were some sad stories but listening to others was helpful in understanding how others were going through; listening to others helps. It was anonymous but gave a sense of reality. Without technology, it would not have been possible.

In 2020, I accomplished a few things. We bought a house and are going to move next year. I took driving lessons and got my driverโ€™s license. Well, I would say no time was wasted.
During the pandemic, having online meetups helped get connected. It is easier to connect. I can attend GiT in between my work.

Next year, when we can travel, I would like to go to Spain. Mostly because of the language and for running.

Negar: Due to the lockdown I missed my family even more. It is the first time I am far away from them for a year now. And during lockdown, few things changed. When I first came to Eindhoven, I wanted to continue my education. But when lockdown happened, I started to paint. It was a good experience. Initially I thought I would do PhD in Physics. But later on, I didnโ€™t feel so good about it. I changed my plan, started learning python. But since I like creativity and design, my husband suggested me to go for Web Designing. So, I started learning programming. A new journey started.

I remember going to a beach in summer. It was the most memorable moment for me from this year. I occupied myself by painting in initial phase of lockdown. Now I am learning programming. I watch movie every day. I donโ€™t go out often unless I have to buy something. When I go shopping, I combine walk and shopping.

Meeting online is really helpful in not feeling alone. I could share my thoughts and what I did. Especially during this time, online meetup is helpful.

Next year, when we can travel, I would first like to visit my family in Iran. Then I want to go to Italy, maybe to Rome and beach.

Thank you both once again!

AGENDA#7, 3 December

Today we celebrated Sinterklaas together with our GiT Family. We had to modify it and decided to do it virtually. Definitely missed the fun part of creating cards, and writing poems impromptu. However, on the other hand, enjoyed every bit of secretly delivering gifts, and controlling our curiosity to know whatโ€™s inside. ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ˜˜

Thank you so much Ashley, Delaram, Gabriela, Eva, Laura, Negar, and Prajitha for celebrating Sinterklaas together. ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿค— And thank you for not peeking inside. ๐Ÿ˜Š

It was fun opening the gifts carefully, without damaging the wrapping paper, and guessing whatโ€™s inside and who the Secret Sint is. ๐Ÿค”Well, Delaram Ashtari was lucky that she could already meet her Secret Sint and cute little Piet. Among the present ones, only Lao Guerrero guessed it correct. For the rest, we had to apply elimination method.๐Ÿ˜€

We missed those who couldn’t make it today. ๐Ÿค—

Thank you, Sint(s), for making everyone so happy with lovely gifts. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿค—

AGENDA#6, 26 November

Thank you Delaram, Laura, and Nandita, for joining in today and taking us along your journey in Eindhoven. ๐Ÿ™

It was interesting to hear your stories on how you came to know about Eindhoven in the first place, what your expectations were, the challenges you faced, and many more.๐Ÿค— It is a wonderful achievement that how new, strange place transitioned to becoming your home. Quite encouraging and motivating as well on how you found your way in Eindhoven, though at times you were lost.

As Nandita said, international communities and the locals were very helpful in finding your way around.๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ˜˜ Specially when you were here a decade ago, the challenges were more. There were not many international communities; no communication through social medias to put your queries into. Language itself being a barrier; especially when English isnโ€™t your first language.

But the vibrant ambience of Eindhoven with its โ€œbeautiful soulโ€, as Delaram said, never seizes to amaze you. The growing international community, international atmosphere, young and energy filled Eindhoven eventually gave you the โ€œsense of belongingโ€.

As Laura said, not just Eindhoven, but the Netherlands in general provides a quality of life, mainly in terms of safety for women.

So, what comes first in the mind of our spouses when anybody says Eindhoven! ๐Ÿค” Delaram: De Blob; Laura: Bowling Pins; and Nandita: Philips Lichttoren, 18 Septemberplein.

Thanks you all once again!๐Ÿ™

AGENDA#5, 19 November

Thank you, Ashley, Binda, Negar, and Viviana for this wonderful day. ๐Ÿ™ Happy to welcome Binda to our family. Our newest member.๐Ÿ˜Š

It was a thrilling 1 and a half hour: Having a chance to welcome our new member, introducing each other and then the puzzle. And that also not just one but four puzzles. Started with easy level and ended with harder one.

As Binda said, we had quite a brain exercise today. We showed quite a teamwork there. ๐Ÿ˜†

Thank you all once again for joining in today.

AGENDA#4, 12 November

Thank you, Negar Arianmehr and Lee Sin Yong, for joining in today. ๐Ÿ™ And Congratulations Lee Sin Yong! I hope youโ€™ll love the prize. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Š

We had 6 different rounds in the quiz. They were:

It was interesting, easier at times but trickier sometimes. Yet you both did well. It was nice to discuss over the questions afterwards.

Thank you once again and hope you had a fun time. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿค—

AGENDA#3, 5 November

Thank you so much Ashlee, Eva, Negar and Sun Qi for joining in today and playing Scribble together.

It was a fun and laughter filled day. Putting our drawing skills and challenging our mind to guess the word! And the time restraint! It was very engaging and thrilling. It showed us that sometimes even the rough, small drawing is enough to guess. And sometimes even though the picture is so detailed, it still eludes our mind.

What an amazing way to brighten up the day! Thanks to Sun Qi for suggesting this wonderful game.

AGENDA#2, 29 October

Thank you, Lee Sin Yong and Eva, for joining us today. ๐Ÿ™

And thank you, Nicole, for an interesting presentation on the events and festivals that are celebrated around this time of year. ๐Ÿ™A different perspective to look at those events and festivals under different circumstances.

Different events have been cancelled, such as Eindhoven Marathon, Dutch Design Week, and GLOW. ๐Ÿ˜žAnd there are festivals on their way. So, today was not only about what events we missed this year or the festivals that are yet to come; but also examined what the consequences and issues connected to them are.

And since we have been staying home for quite some time now, how we are passing our days was another topic on the table. And watching movies and series seem to be helping in this pandemic. ๐ŸŽฌEnded up talking about Tom Hanks’ movies. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Glad to have you all for todayโ€™s meetup and thank you for sharing your ideas, and movie suggestions.

AGENDA#1, 22 October

Thank you, Ashlee, Negar, Prajitha, Sun Qi, and Viviana, for joining in today.

Wow! What an interesting day! Meeting each other, though online, after a couple of weeks, it was wonderful. On top of that, playing 2TRUTHS AND A LIE was not just fun and interesting; we got to know who can convince their lie as a truth. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Two rounds went quickly. And it wasnโ€™t easy all the time. They were tricky at times. It was a good idea Sun Qi to get clues by asking questions. ๐Ÿ˜Š It helped to catch the lies most of the time. ๐Ÿ˜Š

And of course, we learned few more things about one another. For instance, whether you like sushi or not; whether you love learning Dutch or learning yoga; what your favorite color is; how you have travelled for half a year with just your backpack around the world; whether you drive both manual and automatic cars or not; whether you have a pet or not; and the list goes onโ€ฆ

Glad that you all enjoyed it!
